McCorkell
meets with county board about improvements and changes at Jackson
Speedway
The Jackson Speedway
continues to finalize plans for what looks to be a very exciting
season.
Just a day after releasing
its new Jackson Speedway Traveling Series, promoter Jon McCorkell
was in front of the Jackson County Board of Commissioners with plans
for the upcoming season.
On the Agenda were several
items of proposed facility improvements, including replacing the
backstretch guardrail and redoing the interior of the East
VIP
Booth, and to beef up the air conditioning in the East
VIP
booth. $2,000 was
requested to go towards the Guardrail replacement and $1,000 to go
toward the East VIP
booth, with McCorkell picking up the difference in the cost of these
projects. Both of these
items passed unanimously.
Next up, McCorkell
reviewed plans to implement a new Infield Tailgate Section for fans
to watch the races from, as well as plans to have 3 Post-race
Concerts at the track after the races.
The tailgate section will
be in turns 1 and 2 and would allow people to bring there own grills
and coolers in. A
certain number of vehicles would also be permitted into this special
area. McCorkell added
that the intent with both of these programs is to try and bring new
people out to the races by adding entertainment and value.
Both of these items had been discussed in detail with both
the County’s Racing Committee as well as the Sheriff and County
Attorney.
These items were also passed unanimously.
McCorkell had this to say
after the commissioners meeting with regards to the Infield Tailgate
Section and the Post race Concerts:
With the current economy and fuel prices we need to be
competitive in the entertainment industry.
We are doing everything we can to provide a great
entertainment experience for the fans.
We tentatively have the band Uncle Fester booked for three
shows. They have been
very popular around this area, and we think they can help us bring
new people out to the races.
McCorkell also mentioned
that he plans to meet with the City Council to see if they have any
input on this, as well as to discuss the prospect of hiring any off
duty city police officers to help work security on concert nights.
